LAA Installation Banquet 2025: A Celebration of Leadership, Community, and Change

The Lubbock Apartment Association’s 2025 Installation Banquet was more than just a night of celebration—it was a turning point for the association. With a vibrant Mexican Fiesta theme, a packed house of over 280 attendees, and the installation of Jason Cantu as the new president, the event was a testament to the strength of the LAA community and the exciting future ahead.

A Night of Recognition and Tradition

Held at Kitalou Gin, the evening began with a heartfelt invocation, followed by recognition of special guests, including representatives from the National and Texas Apartment Associations, local officials, and LAA past presidents. A particularly memorable moment came when Mayor Mark McBrayer honored the TAA speaker as an honorary citizen—a tradition that took on a fresh energy this year as the newly elected mayor stayed to celebrate, mingle, and connect with members.

The banquet also featured the installation of the 2025 Board of Directors, with Carrie Broadus as Secretary/Treasurer and Wendell Burris as Vice President. The installation of Jason Cantu as president was particularly meaningful, as his journey from leasing agent to associate director of property management resonated deeply with many in attendance. Jason’s career path is an inspiration to those working their way up in the industry. His heartfelt speech, in which he thanked those who supported his journey, was a highlight of the evening.

Awards with a New Twist

This year, the Go-Getter Awards introduced a new format: with past winners announcing the new honorees. This added a sense of continuity and mentorship to the awards, reinforcing the spirit of leadership within the association. The winners included:

πŸ† Leasing Professional of the Year: Ashleigh Hughes (Dimora Village) & Quianyka Scott (Hunter’s Way)
πŸ† Manager of the Year: Erin Birdsey (The Providence) & Frank Soto (Ashton Pointe)
πŸ† Maintenance Professional of the Year: Mario De Los Santos (Anatole at City View) & Jaziel Rico (Bentwood)
πŸ† Regional Manager of the Year: Rhiannon Maxton (Cain Property Management)
πŸ† Service Partner of the Year: Cody Cypert (Guardian Construction)

In addition, outgoing board members Lisa McDonald and Ty Craft were recognized for their years of dedication, as well as Immediate Past President Albert Gillispie, whose term extended to two years in service to LAA.

A Night to Remember

The fiesta theme truly came to life, with many attendees embracing the spirit by dressing in colorful Mexican dresses and Havana-style shirts. A fajita dinner was served during the presentations, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere. Unlike in past years, where attendance often dropped after dinner, this time the energy carried through to the casino and dance floor. With a mix of great music, drinks, and high-value prizes—including bottles of expensive wines, electronic devices, and a 65-inch TV—guests stayed well into the night.

Looking Ahead: A New Era of Leadership

Jason's presidency marks a new chapter for LAA—one that promises accountability, engagement, and a renewed sense of purpose. His leadership comes at a time when the association needs to reignite its passion and involvement, and those who know him believe he’s the right person for the job.

"Jason is a hard worker. He’s never done anything like this before, and I think he feels he has something to prove. He won’t be afraid to ruffle a few feathers, but he will also build relationships and create a sense of belonging," one member shared.

With Jason at the helm, the Lubbock Apartment Association is set for a year of action, growth, and revitalization. If the energy of this year’s banquet is any indication, 2025 is going to be a year to remember.
